Professor Eliane Gluckman received the Wallace H Coulter Lifetime Achievement Award in Hematology during the 66th Congress of the American Society of Hematology in San Diego (USA) on December 8, 2024. This event brought together international experts in the field of hematology with, this year, more than 30,000 participants.
Professor Gluckman, Hematologist, Doctor of Medicine, Professor Emeritus of the Paris Cité University , President of the Eurocord Association at the Saint Louis Hospital (APHP) in Paris and Director of the Monacord Research Group at the Monaco Scientific Center (Monaco Principality), was honored to receive the ASH’s highest honorary distinction, the Wallace H. Coulter Award for Lifetime Achievement in Hematology. This award recognizes her career in the field of research on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in children and adults with malignant and non-malignant hematological diseases. She performed the world’s first umbilical cord blood cell transplant. She is also interested in non-malignant hematological diseases such as bone marrow failure, Fanconi’s disease and sickle cell disease. Her work has led to significant advances in the treatment of these diseases. She currently leads the Eurocord/Monacord team at the Monaco Scientific Center in Monaco and Saint Louis Hospital in Paris, a clinical research unit dedicated to the study of risk factors for hematological diseases.
The recipients of this award are visionary scientists, innovative clinicians and dedicated mentors whose contributions and groundbreaking research have advanced hematology, leaving an indelible mark and lasting impact on the lives of people with hematological diseases.
Professor Éliane Gluckman is the third woman in the world to receive this prestigious award and the first French woman.
