Network with top minds in the field, as well as a global community of more than 25,000 hematology professionals from every subspecialty. The results of the international study on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation from an HLA identical sibling in patients with sickle cell disease were presented. This is the first international study on the use of HSCT for SCD. Data from 1000 children and adults who received an HLA identical sibling as first transplant in Europe, USA and Brazil. The excellent results obtained in terms of overall survival and event free survival demonstrate that transplantation in SCD is feasible with acceptable risk of early and late complications if compared to the expected quality of life of severe SCD patients. This study has therefore been distributed worldwide since it was selected for oral presentation and for a press conference, a publication for Highlights of ASH and best of ASH. Invited for: Press conference on sickle cell disease, Invited by Dr. David Williams (ASH President) Oral Presentation Session  Hemoglobinopathies, Excluding Thalassemia – Clinical: Promising Therapies in Sickle Cell Disease time 10.30-12.00 Moderators: Jane A little, MD, Case Western Best of ASH session 2016 Highlights of ASH® in North America
