Mission and Vision
The main goals of EUROCORD are:
- To collect clinical data of patients who received Umbilical Cord Blood Transplantation (UCBT).
- To promote the dissemination of knowledge on sickle cell disease.
- To conduct immunogenetic studies in order to determine prognostic factors for main outcomes in stem cell transplantation.
- To study the interaction between genetic vulnerability factors and environment risk factors.
- To analyze the outcomes of single and double UCBT in Europe and other transplant centers around the world developing international guidelines for criteria of donor selection.
- To conduct and support cutting-edge research on innovative therapeutic approaches for malignant and non malignant hematological diseases (such as stem cell transplantation, gene therapy, gene editing).
- To promote research on innovative methods for diagnosis and treatment of sickle cell disease.
- To propose recommendations for indications of stem cell transplantation or other innovative therapies such as gene therapy.
- To set up a specialized group on management and treatment of sickle cell disease in France, Africa and countries with a large population of African origin.
- To identify centers for setting up therapeutic trials adapted to local resources.
Research Program
Childhood genetic diseases that have long been neglected are currently at the center of both fundamental and clinical research.
Our group is particularly well known for its long experience in biological and clinical research on children, as evidenced by our work on constitutional aplasias such as Fanconi’s disease and hemoglobinopathies such as sickle cell disease.
